Walking in the Fire

I don’t know about you but I always end up telling my favorite stories over and over. Sometimes I forget who I’ve told what story to so my best friends end up knowing all my stories pretty well. The same thing probably happened to Daniel. Some of Daniel’s best friends were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and I’m sure he heard their story a million times.

The king of Babylon at that time was quite full of himself and created an image of his kingdom for everyone to worship. When the music played everyone was demanded to bow down to the king’s statue. As the music began to play, I can imagine, the crowd of people began to kneel and as a wave the whole plain of people where bowing–except three men. Now standing isn’t generally very obvious but when you’re standing when a whole valley full of people are kneeling you stand out like a sore thumb. That’s exactly what Daniel’s three friends were–OBVIOUS, and it didn’t take long before the king heard about it. In his fury, the king demanded they be thrown into the fiery furnace. As they were thrown into the fire something amazing happened. All of a sudden there were four people instead of three–Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego were walking around in the hot fire with Jesus.

What an amazing experience to be able to walk and talk with Jesus! I’m pretty sure that when the king called them out none of them wanted to leave. It’s easy to get discouraged when our lives are falling apart but like Daniel’s friends Jesus is walking right by our side. Let’s take a moment to talk Him right now.
