Watch Your Back

We are called to help others. I’m sure you have all heard this before. To some extent it is even just natural to get up and help when we see someone struggling.  As sinful as this world has gotten we are not wired to be cruel to others. Somewhere deep in our hearts is the will to help others. Now, what do we do when we see someone struggling in sin?

For starters we shouldn’t talk down to them. If someone is struggling with a temptation or with their spirituality our first response should be kind words and affirmation. Let them know that you are there for them and you want to help and support them. God calls us to “carry each other’s burden”, which means that when one person is hurting spiritually we all are. When someone is struggling with sin we need to ask God for guidance so He will point us to the right direction to help this person. If you read Galatians 6:1, we see that we are being warned to watch out for ourselves as well, when helping another person. It is easy to fall astray when someone is in deep spiritual struggles. Their questions on God can become our questions and their comments can start to make an impact on our minds. This is why you need to make sure your connection with God is strong. If someone is sick with a cold you wouldn’t go help them if you were also struggling from a bad cold. In other words the blind can’t lead the blind. It can easily become a difficult and bumpy road. So remember, when you see someone struggling with sin do not be afraid to reach out to them but be sure to remain strong in your faith.

Galatians 6:1-3, “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you may also be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
